time moves in one direction memory in another

Time Moves In One Direction, Memory in Another.

The title of this work is taken from the "Dead Man Speaks" text written by William Gibson. The piece is comprised by 6 frames each with 240 frames of undeveloped 8mm film, which equal 10 seconds of film if reproduced at 24fps.

Each set of 10 seconds moves along the frames from left to right, this movement generates a particular effect on the observer as it creates a vanishing point located in the centre of the frames.  Somehow we stop thinking about time as a continuum and start thinking on images that are not governed by a timeframe.  The blank undeveloped film is in constant exposure or absorbing light, as a metaphor to reflect the viewers process in recreating it´s own memories, when confronted with the piece. Both the film and the observer are generating the content of the piece.

8mm film is historically the first film format in which the general public or common people
started to collect their daily lives and hence contributed to the transformation of the way in which memories are registered.

This piece seeks to inquire the relation between each individual's perception of time and memory. Although presented with the same material, each individual's perception will defer radically based on personal experience and memory.

My minute is completely different to yours.

There is always a gap between what we recorded, what we perceived and what we remember.
